How does Udemy stack up?

Not sure which delivery platform you should be using?

I had heard that Udemy was a really good place to put up online courses – so I decided to give it a bash, by transferring the 12 Day Challenge to Create Real Change, complete with a few extra goodies onto Udemy in the form of a FREE course.

I don’t think I quite believed all the hype, that it was such a good lead generation tool, that you could actually double your list size within a week.

Boy, was I wrong. After just a week, I got nearly 600 people signed up, and the craziest thing, is that it cost me NOTHING except the time it took to upload the content that I already had lying around in my hard drive.

The 12 Day Challenge, which is just an introduction to the full e-Course and was available through my site? Well I did one advertising push, which cost me over $4000 once I’d paid for the ads to be designed, a guru to create the ad copy and monitor them, the actual ad spend… and for all that jazz, I got 150 sign ups.

Udemy, by contrast…

NO COST, nearly 600 people, no monitoring, ad spend or palava. All that, in just IN SIX FREAKING DAYS. (then nearly 3000 people in 5 months, with 5-10 new students still joining every day, STILL having done not a single thing in terms of promotion …)

Sounds pretty amazing right?! But. Did any of those clients turn into paying clients? Have a guess. The answer, is NO.

So yes, it’s a great platform for getting your content out there and building trust, but as a money maker? Not so much.

If you missed the 12 Day Challenge, you can access it with a special COUPON CODE here.  Now that it’s part of the Library, it’s no longer free, but still not bad value if you just want a bit of a kick start with your content creation.

I was also pretty chuffed with my first review -here it is! That’s another great thing about using Udemy – all the reviews are public 🙂

Ready to find out the difference between all the delivery platforms and learning management systems you can use to house your content online?

Michelle Millichip and I (my trusty developer) have prepared a full lesson on how to choose the right combination of delivery method, platform and tech for releasing your online content. There’s a 60 minute webinar with two clients who are considering different options so you see the whole selection process live. We also prepared two worksheets that will take you through the whole process to help you decide what is best for your needs.

The lesson is available here.

It’s located in the BASICS Level of the Library, in the Starter Pack course:

Lesson 6

Great content stuck in your head & hard drives?

So much to think about . . .

>> What to put in & leave out, in what order?

>> How to package it? Or deliver it? Online?

>> Will it just be a waste of time & money?

>> Will the content actually help people and help me build my reputation as the go-to-professional in my field?
