3.3 Delivery and Presentation Skills

You will learn how to confidently use ninja delivery techniques to ensure your clients are interacting with you, and perched on the edge of their seats wanting more.

The three main components of delivering a killer presentation, and here's a hint - it has nothing to do with whether you're a born entertainer. What's more important - your content or your confidence with speaking to a group? If you've got great content (but not a lot of speaking confidence), you'll end up sounding like a boring lecturer.

If you've got great speaking confidence but you're not really sure about your content, you'll come across as an entertainer (who doesn't really know what they're talking about). Finding that sweet spot is the key, and this lesson will give you all the tips on how to go about it.

In case you have some extra time, and would like to avoid other pitfalls I've encountered when it comes to now knowing your clients well enough before you start working with them!

What really happens when you try to take professional videos.

It's really not as simple as it appears when you see that 3 minute polished video. Here's an insight into what REALLY happens behind the scenes.

7 Body language habits for effective leaders.

This video again, is powerful stuff. A short summary of body language for leaders, it's an interesting watch - even after all the years of studying this stuff I still learnt something new watching it!

3.2 Engaging visual aids

With the lesson on how to create:

3.2 Engaging visual aids

You will learn how to avoid death by PowerPoint by creating visual aids that enhance and help you while you’re presenting.

Been bored out of your mind or confused to WaggaWagga and back thanks to slides that were a mess, full of way too much information or an exact copy of what the presenter was saying to you? You don't need to be that presenter. Join me in saving the world from more pointless torture!   Once you've mastered the art of a good visual aid, you'll also want to learn how to create batches of them so you're working as efficiently as possible. Otherwise, you'll be wasting your time going back over the same work over and over, looking unprofessional and not leaving your clients with any faith that you actually know what you're talking about.

VISUAL AIDS CHECKLIST & ACTIVITIES

BONUS Lesson!

This has to be one of the top areas I help my clients with - how to efficiently create batches of instructional videos that contain powerpoint presentations, video presentations, audio/music clips and/or still images. Simple answer? It's not a walk in the park unless you have a tried and tested system. This PDF will help you work out what is best for YOU and your requirements. Get in touch if you'd like more help understanding this part of the process!

BATCHING VIDEOS EFFICIENTLY

Sanity Saver!

If you're trying to create professionals videos, there's one thing you really have to learn how to do.

Laugh at yourself. Honestly.

While I was producing the video content for my online courses in Bali, I decided I was going to have to put together a blooper reel to expose the not so perfect side of video making. It looks so easy when you see the final products but you know what? It really isn't.

With all the cutting, editing and adjusting that needs to be done to produce 3-4 hours of solid, quality video content, I was going a bit mad so decided to do something that would make at least me laugh - which it did - hop you get a good giggle out of it too!

It's an oldie but a goodie! Essentially Lesson 3.2 in one short, funny video - if he didn't do this video so well, it would have been the way I presented mine!

How body language shapes who you are.

Amy Cuddy is a renowned social psychologist famous for research on body language and non verbal communication - this video is specifically about how body language can change who you are. Powerful stuff.

2.4 Guest expert on efficiency: Christina Hanna Misfud

You will learn about how to ensure efficiency and productivity in your business.

Christina Hanna Misfud, joins with me in this interview to talk  about:

"how efficiency and productivity enables you to do things better, quicker and easier, therefore allowing you to CREATE TIME to do whatever you'd like. Efficiency, productivity, organisation and systems are not about being boring or being regimented! They're about showing you better ways of doing things so as to get stuff out of your head, move you out of overwhelm and into a state of flow within life and business so that your precious time is freed up for whatever you'd like to do with it!'

I don't know about you, but the thought of creating a whole heap of content for a course can be somewhat overwhelming - as this Module has probably shown you! As usual, we addressed  all the questions that came up during the live round of the course.

If you're after some practical examples of the Digital Tools I use every day to keep my business running, check out the Pre-Reading Task.

1.4 Guest expert interview with Kris Emery

You will learn how to communicate with your clients in language that resonates with them.

I joined with Kris Emery to talk about how to bring clarity to your copy, so that you can tap into the needs of your clients, speak their language and be able to communicate clear expectations. In essence, everything you learnt about in Lesson 1, from a copy-editing perspective - and it was GOLD if I do say so myself ha ha!

We also addressed all the questions that our first round of learners had from this module so tune in if you're ready from some professional wisdom, and to learn from others who are in a similar teaching and learning position to you 🙂

If you don't think this is important, engage with the Pre-Reading Task where you'll see how easy it is to come off as a rude, arrogant pervert - like I did when I lived in Japan!

In case you have some extra time, here's another interview I did with Kris on how to get your message heard.

Communicate using effective copy

Is your message really being heard? Kris explains to us the nuts and bolts behind writing copy for your learning experiences, or websites, that really speaks to your clients in language they can relate to. What does that result in? Clients taking action, creating real change, and serious kicking goals.

1.3 Setting clear expectations

WITH THE LESSON ON:

1.3 Setting Clear Expectations

You will learn how to design a learning experience that sets clear expectations, and minimises refunds and complaints.

And when  you don't? Hold your hats. A myriad of complaints and miscommunications over what people thought they were getting, and all that leads to is your reputation getting a name for itself that in all honesty, you don't really deserve. Terms and Conditions are imperative but even before that, understanding exactly what you're delivering is crucial if you're going to clearly communicate that to your prospective clients. Under promise, over deliver, a sure fire recipe for referrals based business booming!

I often get asked the question 'How many people should you have in a course (or workshop, mastermind, retreat, intensive online course etc), and the answer isn't as clear cut as you might expect. Engage with the Pre-reading to get the answer 🙂

1.2 Learning styles and educational theories

With the Lesson on:

1.2 Learning Styles and Educational Theories

You will learn how to design content that will appeal to the broadest range of clients, by catering for various learning styles and multiple intelligences.

There are a multitude of different learning styles, and sometimes our preferences change depending on what it is that we're learning. I'd much prefer to watch someone doing something mechanical like changing a tyre, before giving it a go myself, but with cooking? Hand me a recipe and let me work it out for myself! Do you know the preferred learning styles of your clients, for your content? Or are you delivering content that is otherwise brilliant, in a mode that they're simply not interested in?

If you've heard that Learning Styles may have gone out of fashion lately (lots of articles floating around saying not to bother with them), I suggest you have a read of the Pre-Reading Task. They're definitely still a thing, the way they've been interpreted has just changed slightly!

LEARNING STYLES WORKSHEET

Supplementary Materials

There is so much to learn about learning styles and preferences, and the below 3 articles are very succinct and practical; helping you work out your learning styles, and an easy way for you to help your clients work out theirs.

What's your learning style Quiz

Have you ever wondered why some of your learners do better  than others? It may depend on their individual learning styles. Find out yours, and those of your learners, so that you can tailor your learning experiences to be as effective as possible! This quiz is courtesy of EducationPlanner.org

Multiple Intelligence Quiz

Now that you know your Learning Styles, and those of your learners, find out you and your learners' preferred intelligences with this simple online quiz courtesy of LiteracyNet.org

Engaging the Intelligences

Once you've discovered your learner's individual mix of strengths, you can begin tailoring your teaching methods. There are a number of ways to accomplish this, but it helps to begin with an overview of general strategies for engaging each intelligence. This link is provided courtesy of LiteracyNet.org

1.1 Client profiling

WITH THE LESSON ON:

1.1 Client Profiling for Needs Based Learning

You will learn how to get inside your clients' heads, so that you can plan for their needs by incorporating their specific circumstances, including educational backgrounds and industry experience.

What happens when you don't, is that you start creating content for problems you THINK they have, or that you may have had when YOU were going through the same process, but 5 years on, the landscape has completely changed so pitching the same, or trying to solve the same problems still, is completely missing the mark. You may also find that you're telling them things they already know, insulting their intelligence and generally rubbing them up the wrong way.

Engage with the Pre-Reading Task if you don't believe me! It has links to a raft of examples how I learnt the hard way; how not knowing who your clients really are, can lead to disaster in terms of building rapport and respect. If you've been wanting to have a good laugh at someone else's misfortune (mine), this would be a good time 🙂 You'll also hopefully learn some pearler cultural facts that you didn't already know about people from the Asia Pacific region!
