The Joy of Giving Back
Seeing what a few thousand dollars worth of resources could do to a school that was severely underfunded and unsupported was what lead me to create the Giving Back part of my business, which you can read more about here. It’s what drives me forward to make enough income every year to be able to set a portion of it aside and simply give back some of what I’ve been fortunate enough to receive.
It all started with a Habitat for Humanity trip to India in 2005… since I started my own company I’ve done 4 Giving Back trips, one for every year I’ve been in business. Read more about all the projects, and other causes I support, here.
Giving Back is what the late Clare Greig and I talked about in June 2015, the WHY of what we do, and how we do it. In summary, it’s all about how to give back your time, money, skills or resources – and if you engage with the full lesson (links below) it’ll take you through the myriad of ways you can ‘Give Back’ to the community of your choice, and a pace that suits you and your stage in business.
It was a joy to speak with Clare and the music she created to back these stories of how to give back through your business, touches me in a way that no other piece of music has – in a long time. Be the change you want to see.
Unfortunately the interviews are no longer online, but the music lives on. Have a listen here. Once you’re on SoundPlay, you can also find the 9 minute Ukulele version which is an awesome track to meditate to – and a whole heap of other beautiful music Clare created and generously shared. #takentoosoon
